Control aspect ratio and duration

Aspect ratio and duration are two of the simplest controls in Videna and two of the most important. Picking the right combination for your placement saves you from cropping and re editing later.

Aspect ratios

Videna supports three aspect ratios. Vertical is 9 by 16, which is the format for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, and Stories. Square is 1 by 1, which works for in feed Instagram and Facebook posts. Landscape is 16 by 9, which is the format for YouTube preroll, embedded storefront videos, and most desktop placements. Pick the aspect ratio when you create the video. Switching it later requires a fresh generation.

Durations

You can pick 5 seconds or 8 seconds. There is no in between. Five seconds is the right length for most short form social. Eight seconds gives you room for a slower cinematic moment or a tutorial step, but it costs more credits and many viewers scroll before the eight seconds finishes. Most merchants use 5 seconds for nine out of ten videos.

Resolution and credit cost

Resolution is a separate control from duration. You can pick 480p, 720p, or 1080p. The cost combines duration and resolution. A 5 second 720p video costs 5 credits. A 5 second 1080p video costs 10 credits. An 8 second 1080p video costs 16 credits. The cost estimate on the right side of the Create page updates live so you can see the price before you commit.

Picking the right combination

For a TikTok or Reels post, use 9 by 16, 5 seconds, 720p. For a brand film on YouTube, use 16 by 9, 8 seconds, 1080p. For a storefront banner, use 16 by 9, 5 seconds, 720p. For an Instagram in feed test, use 1 by 1, 5 seconds, 720p. These four combinations cover most placements that Shopify merchants run.

When to spend on 1080p

Spend on 1080p when the video will run as a paid ad, when it will be embedded on a desktop page, or when it will be repurposed across multiple placements. For organic short form social, 720p almost always looks identical on a phone screen and saves you half the credits.

If you want to publish to multiple placements, generate the version you trust most first and judge whether to make a second cut at a different aspect ratio.
